February is Water and Sanitation month in the Rotary calendar year. As outlined in this focus area, “clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life. When people have access to clean water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children, stay healthier and attend school more regularly, and mothers can spend less time carrying water and more time helping their families.”

Our club has been active in supporting water and sanitation projects. We sponsored a global grant in Nicaragua providing latrines in four villages and wells and water systems in four additional villages. We have also provided financial support (club and district designated funds) for the Evergreen Club’s global grant for developing wells and a water distribution system on the island of St. Helene, Honduras.  Click the link to see a video of this project: /watch?v=89LPemLhY3w
Plans are being made for three club fundraisers this spring and summer:  The Golden Rotary Golf Tournament in June, Peach Sale in August, and  Woohoomanity Bike Challenge in September.  More details about these events and how to participate and/or contribute will be shared during future club meetings.
Finally, District 5450 is promoting a “Rotary Day of Service” on Saturday, May 8th for all clubs in our district. We are in the process of identifying projects for our club that will provide opportunities for all of our members to participate. If you have any ideas for a project, please send them to Bill Getzinger
Rotary eClub One is a fully chartered Rotary club and spending 30 minutes on their club site is a Rotary International approved make-up. Rotary International by-laws were changed in 2007 to provide for this make-up. If you have not completed an online make-up yet, you will find it full of more Rotary information then you might typically get at a traditional meeting.
